Hillier Road, Howard Springs

An existing dwelling was demolished and a new three bedroom tropical home was built.

Surrounded by bushland, the aim was to create a modern and energy efficient home that would suit the natural environment around it.

The home comprised of two pods separated by a sizeable breezeway with a raised roof section. This provided protection from the weather, whilst allowing natural breezes to flow around the home. Use of louvres throughout the home enabled cross-ventilation and reduce the need for air conditioning. The installation of solar panels aimed to reduce the demand on power supply.

The home was elevated slightly off the natural ground to create a greater presence and to enable the construction of timber decking whilst also allowing ventilation under the home.
